Abstract

The crime of aggression is one of the gravest international offenses, and it has influenced the course of world history and the legal order through conflicts, the establishment of international tribunals, and the development of norms of in-ternational law. As such, it represents a challenge in bridging legal theory and historical experience, since it requires a precise determination of the boundaries of the legitimate use of force. This paper traces the evolution of the concept of aggression from its vague definition in the interwar period, through the Nurem-berg Tribunal, to the contemporary institutional framework of the International Criminal Court. In addition, the paper shows how international legal standards have been adapted to the conditions of global security and political pressures. Through analysis of key events, precedents, and resolutions, the change in the understanding and regulation of this crime is described in light of historical cir-cumstances and shifts in the global security situation. Attention is drawn to the legal and political challenges in establishing individual criminal responsibility for the act of aggression, as well as to the development of international consensus on the inadmissibility of the use of force against sovereign states. The paper aimed to highlight the mechanisms by which legal theory shapes the application and development of norms against aggression, thereby contributing to understanding their role in preserving international peace.
